Feast of events and offers to mark Scotland’s national day
OBAN residents are being encouraged to get involved in a programme of events and special offers for Scotland’s national day.
Circus performers put on a spectacular stunt at the Oban Distillery as part of this year’s Oban Winter Festival.
This is one of 11 funded events in Scotland’s Winter Festival calendar and more than 420 venues offering incentives to encourage people to visit Scotland as part of their St Andrew’s Day celebrations.
The two performers from contemporary circus company Circus Alba gave a glimpse of what to expect at this week’s Oban Winter Festival (which ends on November 29) and to highlight the different events and activities taking place in Argyll and the Isles for St Andrew’s Day. Louis Barrow from volunteer group Oban Winter Festival said: ‘Our organising committee has been delighted to watch the Oban Winter Festival get better every year.
‘People have been getting involved in many different ways – by simply coming under our with their own events, such as comedy, music, dance, visual arts and exhibitions – or by simply attending one of the top quality food and drink events, tied to St Andrew’s Day.
‘Most satisfying of all, though, has been the success in realising some of our original intentions, to bring family members of all ages together to enjoy the local events or just the simple pleasures on offer to Oban’s locals and visitors.
‘It has been a pleasure to see so many folk keen to learn about the nature of their area, its world- class produce and its interesting history.
‘The sense of community in Oban was already strong and we are delighted to welcome visitors to come and join in.’
Scotland’s Winter Festivals is a
