Feast of events and of­fers to mark Scot­land’s na­tional day

OBAN res­i­dents are be­ing en­cour­aged to get in­volved in a pro­gramme of events and spe­cial of­fers for Scot­land’s na­tional day.

Cir­cus per­form­ers put on a spec­tac­u­lar stunt at the Oban Dis­tillery as part of this year’s Oban Win­ter Fes­ti­val.

This is one of 11 funded events in Scot­land’s Win­ter Fes­ti­val cal­en­dar and more than 420 venues offering in­cen­tives to en­cour­age peo­ple to visit Scot­land as part of their St An­drew’s Day cel­e­bra­tions.

The two per­form­ers from con­tem­po­rary cir­cus com­pany Cir­cus Alba gave a glimpse of what to ex­pect at this week’s Oban Win­ter Fes­ti­val (which ends on Novem­ber 29) and to high­light the dif­fer­ent events and ac­tiv­i­ties tak­ing place in Ar­gyll and the Isles for St An­drew’s Day. Louis Bar­row from vol­un­teer group Oban Win­ter Fes­ti­val said: ‘Our or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee has been de­lighted to watch the Oban Win­ter Fes­ti­val get bet­ter ev­ery year.

‘Peo­ple have been get­ting in­volved in many dif­fer­ent ways – by sim­ply com­ing un­der our with their own events, such as com­edy, mu­sic, dance, vis­ual arts and ex­hi­bi­tions – or by sim­ply at­tend­ing one of the top qual­ity food and drink events, tied to St An­drew’s Day.

‘Most sat­is­fy­ing of all, though, has been the suc­cess in re­al­is­ing some of our orig­i­nal in­ten­tions, to bring fam­ily mem­bers of all ages to­gether to enjoy the lo­cal events or just the sim­ple plea­sures on of­fer to Oban’s lo­cals and visi­tors.

‘It has been a plea­sure to see so many folk keen to learn about the na­ture of their area, its world- class pro­duce and its in­ter­est­ing history.

‘The sense of com­mu­nity in Oban was al­ready strong and we are de­lighted to wel­come visi­tors to come and join in.’

Scot­land’s Win­ter Fes­ti­vals is a

pro­gramme of events run­ning across Scot­land in the lead up to St An­drew’s Day, through Christ­mas and Hog­manay, to Burns Night to pro­mote and show­case Scot­land as a mod­ern and cre­ative na­tion with a rich her­itage, through mu­sic, arts, food and drink.
