The Oban Times - - News -

A MAN who made off after crashing his car on the A816 near to Kilmore did more than just woke up local residents – he felt the full force of the law in action.

The incident in the early hours of Saturday morning saw the driver of an Audi make off, but he was seen by another driver who almost crashed into the abandoned vehicle.

The incident saw police officers from all over the command area pulled in to search for the man. The support of helicopter Coastguard 177 and the police dog unit was also enlisted.

Sergeant Alan Moore of Oban Police Station said: ‘ We used the significant police resources available to us as we were dealing with a man who had been involved in a serious car crash.’

Later that morning, police located a 32-year- old man who was believed to be involved in the incident.

The man was charged with driving under the influence of drink or drugs, driving without insurance or an MOT, culpable and reckless conduct, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and failing to report a road traffic accident.

A report has been made to the Procurator Fiscal.
