THE STAR engineers fronting the UK’s race to space will hear Campbeltown’s claim for the final frontier at a London conference next month.
Jeff Cole, the man at mission control for Discover Space UK, the spaceport arm of Machrihanish Airbase Community Company (MACC), has been invited to present at The Royal Aeronautical Society’s (RAeS) Space Group’s conference, ‘Spaceport UK – A New Frontier for Growth and Enterprise’, on February 3. It will be attended by companies such as Virgin Galactic, Deimos Space UK and the Westminster government. The UK government hopes to have a spaceport operational by 2019.
Mr Cole said: ‘The conference is a great chance for the main contenders to explain what a spaceport is all about and why it is so vital. I will explain why Campbeltown is the best site, including the long runway, already twice approved for space flight, and reinforce the idea that a spaceport is about jobs, high-tech engineering and social benefit.’
