Thank you CalMac

The Oban Times - - Letters -

Sir, I would like to express my gratitude for all that CalMac does, and the efforts it makes.

The Sunday Herald’s ( January 10) headline reads ‘Scientists’ warning: Climate change means wild weather in Scotland is the new normal’.

Our weather is increasingly variable and severe, and we are told that we will have to get used to more winters like this one, as climate pollution from vehicles and industry warms the planet and wreaks havoc with the weather.

At a CalMac public meeting held on the island last year, the same complaints that continue to be made were addressed. There is no easy solution, particularly vis-a-vis the infrastructure of the terminals, mostly council owned. At least the amber warnings give us time to make contingency plans.

We asked for bigger ferries, cheaper fares, more sailings and more facilities. Increased cancellations could be partially reflective because of the increased number of winter sailings. Norway is experiencing similar problems. So thank you, CalMac.
