Sunshine gives Oban a boost
THE SUNSHINE and above-average temperatures saw an influx of visitors to Oban over the spring bank holiday weekend, which is continuing into this week because of the half-term summer break for schools south of the border.
A number of local businesses reported good trading over the weekend, which according to Visit Scotland was ‘exceptionally busy’.
Staff members in Kronks, on Stafford Street said: ‘It’s been a fantastic weekend, really, really busy, and the weather’s obviously helped.’
Robert McKay, owner of Little Bay Café, said: ‘ It’s certainly been good for business – we’ve seen the benefit of the sunshine. Last year’s spring bank holiday was not as good weather. It’s good to see a lot of overseas tourists as well.’
Oban Distillery Visitor Centre’s tours were fully booked on Monday and despite being an indoor attraction, the nice weather seemed to have helped boost their footfall.
One staff member told The Oban Times that it was ‘really busy’ and had been ‘a really good weekend’.
