Island to host slate festival
THE ATLANTIC Islands Centre on Luing will be buzzing this weekend as it holds its annual slate festival.
Held over three days, the event will provide a fascinating insight into the island’s history as a slate-producing location.
It starts tomorrow night (Friday) with a tapas night when visitors can tuck into Spanish delights.
On Saturday, there will be two slate mosaic workshops by artist and geologist Dugald MacInnes, the first from 10am until noon and the next from 1pm to 3pm.
At 4pm there will be an illustrated talk on the rise and fall of the slate industry, followed later by a slate islands ceilidh.
Sunday sees slate tiles dressing demonstration at noon and a slate sculpture competition at 1.15pm. There will also be a slate exhibition in the Atlantic Islands Centre throughout the month.
