Or­well So­ci­ety to visit site of book

THE OR­WELL So­ci­ety is vis­it­ing Jura this week to see where au­thor Ge­orge Or­well wrote his novel 1984. So­ci­ety mem­bers, led by Or­well’s adopted son Richard Blair, will be on the is­land from to­mor­row (Fri­day) un­til Mon­day. The so­ci­ety will visit Barn­hill at the invitation of the Fletcher fam­ily and en­joy a trip around Jura to see some of the fea­tures of the is­land, in­clud­ing the Gulf of Cor­rievreckan, where Or­well nearly drowned in 1947.
