Lochaber Ca­manachd veter­ans re­mem­ber

A 50-YEAR cel­e­bra­tion took place at Aonach Mhor Ho­tel, Spean Bridge, re­cently when the re­main­ing play­ers of the all- con­quer­ing Lochaber Ca­manachd team of 1964/65 got to­gether.

On dis­play were the Suther­land, Strathdearn and MacGil­livray League cups which Lochaber won in that sea­son.

In ad­di­tion many orig­i­nal photos and mem­o­ra­bilia of that pe­riod were also on dis­play. Sur­viv­ing play­ers and rel­a­tives trav­elled from far to en­joy the cel­e­bra­tions with lots of laughs and good mem­o­ries brought to mind.

Lochaber played 21 games that sea­son, win­ning 19, los­ing one, and draw­ing one.

The Suther­land Cup was won on the old King Ge­orge Park, Fort Wil­liam, against Bal­lachul­ish with a 3-1 vic­tory, the League Cup at the Bught Park, In­ver­ness, and fi­nally re­turn­ing to the King Ge­orge Park for an evening match against Bole­sk­ine in the Strathdearn Cup fi­nal when, af­ter be­ing down 1-3, Lochaber pulled off an amaz­ing win in the dy­ing min­utes by 4-3.
