SCOT­LAND’s trans­port min­is­ter was one of the first to see the po­ten­tial re­sults of Caledonia Sleeper’s £150 mil­lion make over.

Humza Yousaf MSP boarded a pro­to­type of new sleeper train car­riages at a ware­house near Ed­in­burgh.

More than £150m is be­ing in­vested in the new fleet, which is part funded by a £60m cap­i­tal grant from the Scot­tish Govern­ment.

Span­ish com­pany CAF will over­see the build which is now un­der way.

The ser­vice with the new car­riages is ex­pected to start run­ning in 2018.

Sev­eral new fea­tures have been in­cluded such as dou­ble beds, ho­tel-style key card en­try sys­tem, more ac­ces­si­ble rooms, re­clin­ing seat, up­graded pan­els for phone and gad­get charg­ing, and wifi.
