10 months for Oban man who at­tacked friend

AN OBAN man has been sen­tenced to 10 months for a ‘vi­cious at­tack’ on his friend at the Rock­port Ho­tel on Box­ing Day last year.

Damien McAu­ley of Kin­lochan, Ard­con­nel Road, Oban, pleaded guilty to as­sault­ing Alexan­der McLeish by re­peat­edly punch­ing him in the head, Oban Sher­iff Court heard on Tues­day July 5.

The 24-year- old also ad­mit­ted as­sault­ing his ex-part­ner after an ar­gu­ment, by push­ing her through a door at a house on Miller Road on April 30, 2016, while he was on bail.

Sher­iff Ruth An­der­son im­posed a cus­to­dial sen­tence, ‘given [McAu­ley’s] record and the na­ture of the as­sault’, of 10 months for the more se­ri­ous and ‘vi­cious at­tack’, and 30 days for the lesser as­sault.

Both sen­tences are to run con­cur­rently from Tues­day July 5.
