A NEW book festival is set to take place in Mallaig this year.

Author Polly Pullar joined forces with the West Highland hotel manager Sine Davis, to discuss the idea of a literary event.

A Write Highland Hoolie is now to be held in October this year.

Ms Pullar, whose books include Fauna Scotica, Animals and People in Scotland, and A Drop in the Ocean, Lawrence MacEwen and the Island of Muck, said: ‘When Sine and I first discussed this, I did not expect to hear any more about it.

‘We know there is much to do to make this a success, but are all extremely enthusiastic, and have a great line-up of authors, and we hope something to suit all ages and tastes.’

Organisers want to get as much community involvement as possible, with a variety of workshops for children.

The line up includes, Jim Crumley, Camille Dressler, Debi Gliori, Sue Lawrence, John Love, Angus MacDonald, Donald S. Murray, Stuart Murray, Alasdair Roberts, Michael F. Russell, and Jess Smith.

Musicians Elsa Jean McTaggart, and husband Gary Lister will be entertaining attendees of the event.

Author and chairwoman of a Write Highland Hoolie, Polly Pullar.
