Popular Oban pub to re-open

-

WORK has started to refurbish a well-known Oban establishment that has been closed since 2008.

Scaffolding surrounds the popular Oban Inn, which had to shut up shop after its parent company went in to administration.

Sean MacIntyre, who first laid eyes on his would-be wife in the Oban Inn, said: ‘I first met Tracy in the Oban Inn and I also asked her to marry me in there.’

He jokingly added: ‘Although I don’t remember it.’

‘It’s good for the town,’ he said. ‘It’s good to see that corner being done up instead of being left to rot. And there’s no doubt I’m not the only person with fond stories.’

Argyll and Bute councillor Roddy McCuish said: ‘It’s more good news for Oban that the Oban Inn is re- opening. This completes the excellent work the council has done and it completes streets of vibrant businesses in that patch of town. In my opinion the Oban Inn is as much as an iconic building as McCaig’s Tower. I’m absolutely delighted with this news.’
