New cam­paign to help chil­dren

DALMALLY- BASED char­ity Mary’s Meals has launched a new cam­paign to help chil­dren in Malawi.

The Cri­sis in Malawi cam­paign aims to en­sure that the hun­dreds of thou­sands of chil­dren who re­ceive school meals con­tinue to do so and to reach oth­ers des­per­ately need­ing help.

Malawi, where the char­ity’s work be­gan, is cur­rently fac­ing a state of na­tional emer­gency with se­vere food short­ages caused by droughts and flood­ing.

Mag­nus Mac­Far­lane- Barrow, the founder and chief ex­ec­u­tive of Mary’s Meals, re­cently vis­ited Malawi.

He said: ‘I am ap­palled at the suf­fer­ing of the peo­ple at the cen­tre of this deep­en­ing cri­sis. There is real des­per­a­tion in many ru­ral areas but I also heard re­peat­edly that Mary’s Meals was their one cer­tainty.’
