New app fo­cuses on High­lands

HIK­ING web­site Walkhigh­lands has de­ployed Google tech­nol­ogy to en­cour­age more peo­ple to visit Scot­land’s beau­ti­ful land­scapes.

The views from some of Scot­land’s finest walks are set to be­come more ac­ces­si­ble thanks to its lat­est project in part­ner­ship with Google. Walkhigh­lands is cap­tur­ing 360- de­gree im­agery us­ing the fu­tur­is­tic Google Trekker tech­nol­ogy.

The de­vice has 15 lenses and a GPS and snaps a series of pho­tos ev­ery 2.5 sec­onds. Paul and He­len Web­ster from Walkhigh­lands took turns car­ry­ing the 44lb back­pack but the re­sult­ing im­agery will form part of Google Street View, as well as be­ing part of Walkhigh­lands’ on­line route guides. He­len said: ‘ We hope the footage we are cap­tur­ing will en­able more peo­ple to ex­pe­ri­ence these mag­i­cal places.’
