New app focuses on Highlands
HIKING website Walkhighlands has deployed Google technology to encourage more people to visit Scotland’s beautiful landscapes.
The views from some of Scotland’s finest walks are set to become more accessible thanks to its latest project in partnership with Google. Walkhighlands is capturing 360- degree imagery using the futuristic Google Trekker technology.
The device has 15 lenses and a GPS and snaps a series of photos every 2.5 seconds. Paul and Helen Webster from Walkhighlands took turns carrying the 44lb backpack but the resulting imagery will form part of Google Street View, as well as being part of Walkhighlands’ online route guides. Helen said: ‘ We hope the footage we are capturing will enable more people to experience these magical places.’
