Wed­ding guests join in the fun at suc­cess­ful Knoy­dart Games

A WED­DING party joined in the fun of the Knoy­dart Games which, de­spite wet weather, were hailed a great suc­cess.

The event, on Satur­day Au­gust 6, fea­tured a va­ri­ety of com­pe­ti­tions in­clud­ing tug- of-war, an as­sault course, a com­mu­nity bar, tombola and stalls.

Jackie Robert­son, an In­verie vil­lage hall com­mit­tee mem­ber, told The Oban Times: ‘The day was a great suc­cess with a fan­tas­tic turnout. The ferry brought in guests from Mal­laig.

‘There was a wed­ding party on Knoy­dart too. The cou­ple got mar­ried on Mal­laig and then cel­e­brated at the games.

‘They turned up in a white land rover cov­ered in rib­bons and bunt­ing.’

In the evening every­one gath­ered in In­verie vil­lage hall to en­joy the mu­sic of ceilidh band Dosca. The night was or­gan­ised by Anna Robert­son, 13, and Kiera Hol­royd, 17.

The young­sters or­ches­trated the whole event, plan­ning which band would play and sort­ing their ac­com­mo­da­tion while in Knoy­dart. Ms Robert­son said: ‘It was a great learn­ing curve for the young­sters and good to see them get in­volved.’

She added: ‘It was a great com­mu­nity day out, with tourists and lo­cals hav­ing fun to­gether and a cou­ple cel­e­brat­ing their wed­ding.’
