Boost for Oban businesses
A NEW event to support Argyll and Bute’s business community and encourage enterprise was announced last week.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise has teamed up with Argyll and Bute Council’s Business Gateway to host the first Argyll Enterprise Week, in Oban, from October 31 to November 4.
BUSINESS Gateway Argyll and Bute is encouraging business owners to take advantage of the free business skills workshops on offer over the next couple of months.
The Managing and Developing Staff workshop will help firms to recruit, induct, manage and develop staff in a way that helps business to grow.
It focuses on the skills and processes needed to get the best out of staff, rather than the legal aspects. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to create a plan for managing and developing staff within the business.
The workshop will run in Ardrishaig on September 15 from 9.30am to 1.30pm. It is being delivered by Karen Morrill, founder of Morrill PMC Ltd, a people management consultancy. Karen is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development with in- depth knowledge and experience in the field of people management and employment law.
A Selling with Confidence workshop will help you feel more confident selling and promoting yourself and your business. You will learn selling tips and how to identify customer needs and match them with products or services. The workshop also covers overcoming customer objections, dealing with queries and feedback and identifying the buying signals to help you close a sale. This workshop will run in Inveraray on September 21 from 10am-1pm.
Other workshops available during this period in Lochgilphead include Practical Basic Book-keeping on Au- gust 23, Introduction to Social Media on August 24 and Doing More with Social Media on August 25. A Business Start-up workshop will run on September 7 and 8 in Oban.
