Birthday girl’s charity leap

The Oban Times - - News -

A GIRL from Dunbeg celebrated her 16th birthday by jumping thousands of feet out of the sky to raise money for Hope Kitchen, writes David McPhee.

Laura Strang, and her brother Donald, raised £578 for the Oban food bank. She said: ‘ It [the jump] was amazing. When I put my foot out of the plane and on to the step it was scary, but when I was pushed out it wasn’t – it was adrenaline.

‘I wanted to do something exciting for my birthday because it’s a memorable age.’

Stuart Chalmers, chairman of Hope Kitchen, said: ‘She has done something I don’t think any of us would have done.

‘I’m full of admiration and really grateful. It [the money] will go a long way.’

Lorraine King, manager of Hope Kitchen, said: ‘ We are moving to new premises this year and we need everything for round there. That amount of money could be spent on a new oven or a new dishwasher. It’s an amazing thing to do for her 16th birthday.’
