Oban man faces jail for assault
A 24-YEAR- OLD Oban man is facing jail for an assault which broke the victim’s jaw and resulted in surgery to insert a metal plate.
David Kyle Bruce, of Rock Haven, Glenmore Road, admitted assaulting the man at Station Road, Oban, by repeatedly punching him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground, and then kicking him on the head to his loss of consciousness and severe injury.
Procurator fiscal Eoin McGinty told Oban Sheriff Court last Tuesday, August 16, that the man was walking with his girlfriend along Oban sea front to the taxi stand on September 26, 2015, when he was approached by the accused and punched and kicked in the face. Bruce was identified by witnesses at the scene and detained the next day.
Mr McGinty said the complainer suffered ‘abrasions and swelling to the forehead and the eye’, and ‘X rays revealed he had a badly fractured jaw’. Later he required surgery to insert permanent metal plates.
‘The injuries are not permanent, but he suffers pain,’ Mr McGinty said.
Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC deferred sentence until October 11 for a criminal justice social work report, and told Bruce: ‘All options are open. A period of custody is uppermost in my mind. I do not want you walking away from here thinking you are not facing custody.’
His bail was continued.
