A NORTH Uist group has been granted £60,000 to help it set up a new com­mu­nity cen­tre.

Grim­say com­mu­nity as­so­ci­a­tion has been awarded the fund­ing from the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Com­mu­nity Cap­i­tal Grant Fund (CCGF).

Coun­cil­lor Alas­dair Ma­cleod, chair­man of the sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment com­mit­tee, said: ‘The Comhairle has sup­ported a fur­ther CCGF project which de­liv­ers com­mu­nity eco­nomic growth and cre­ates in­come gen­er­a­tion op­por­tu­ni­ties for small busi­nesses lo­cally with ad­di­tional cul­tural and so­cial ben­e­fit.’

The new cen­tre will pro­vide com­mu­nity ser­vices and ameni­ties and serve as a so­cial and cul­tural hub for the whole of North Uist.
