Sammy’s in­door foot­ball league gets un­der way

MORE than 100 play­ers have al­ready signed up to this year’s in­door win­ter foot­ball league in the Ne­vis Cen­tre.

Sammy’s Fish and Chip shop in Caol has agreed to spon­sor the 2016 com­pe­ti­tion which will now be known as Sammy’s In­door Win­ter League.

Spon­sor­ship money has al­ready been used to buy new nets, balls, a tro­phy and medals for the win­ners.

Co- or­di­na­tor Robert MacMil­lan said: ‘It’s great to have a lo­cal com­pany help­ing to­wards the run­ning costs and more than 100 play­ers will ben­e­fit from it this year.’

The first matches kicked off in the Ne­vis Cen­tre last Sun­day even­ing with The Goon Squad, In­ver­lochy United, HWE, Fiorentina Turner, The Young Team. Ne­vis Range, The Stoaters, Dog­house Thistle Bal­latasaray and Por­towcy mak­ing their de­but in the new league.

Games will be played weekly and more in­for­ma­tion can be found on the league’s Face­book page.

Week 1 re­sults - Goon Squad 7, Bal­latasaray 5; Fiorentina Turner 8, The Young Team; In­ver­lochy 3, HWE 1; Por­tocwy 14, Ne­vis Range 5, Stoaters 2, Dog­house Thistle 12.
