Fort Wil­liam Cricket Club on the look­out for new mem­bers

FORT Wil­liam Cricket Club has said it is ‘de­ter­mined to im­prove year on year’ as the team start prepa­ra­tions for the 2017 sea­son.

Cricket has been played in Fort Wil­liam since the 19th cen­tury and the present club, which was founded in 2005, cur­rently plays in the North of Scot­land Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion Se­nior League.


The club fin­ished sixth in the league in 2016, win­ning six matches and loos­ing eight. Club cap­tain Charles Lux­ton said: ‘I’m es­pe­cially pleased with the way we’ve played against the strong­est teams in the league. We can give any­one a game on the day.’

A club spokesman said: ‘ We are de­ter­mined to im­prove year on year and that means pre­par­ing now for the 2017 sea­son. If you en­joy cricket, or just want to have a go, come along to our prac­tice ses­sions at Lochaber High School on Tues­day evenings from 5.30pm un­til 7pm.

‘All ages are wel­come, whether you are new to the sport or haven’t played for years. We are grate­ful for the sup­port of Lochaber Ac­tive Schools and High Life High­land in mak­ing this pos­si­ble.’


The club’s an­nual gen­eral meet­ing and awards pre­sen­ta­tion will be on Fri­day De­cem­ber 9 at 6.30pm at Lochaber Rugby Club’s Banavie club­house.

The new Lochaber Sup­plies ten-pin bowl­ing league be­gan on Mon­day with five teams tak­ing part.
