Fort William Cricket Club on the lookout for new members
FORT William Cricket Club has said it is ‘determined to improve year on year’ as the team start preparations for the 2017 season.
Cricket has been played in Fort William since the 19th century and the present club, which was founded in 2005, currently plays in the North of Scotland Cricket Association Senior League.
The club finished sixth in the league in 2016, winning six matches and loosing eight. Club captain Charles Luxton said: ‘I’m especially pleased with the way we’ve played against the strongest teams in the league. We can give anyone a game on the day.’
A club spokesman said: ‘ We are determined to improve year on year and that means preparing now for the 2017 season. If you enjoy cricket, or just want to have a go, come along to our practice sessions at Lochaber High School on Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm until 7pm.
‘All ages are welcome, whether you are new to the sport or haven’t played for years. We are grateful for the support of Lochaber Active Schools and High Life Highland in making this possible.’
The club’s annual general meeting and awards presentation will be on Friday December 9 at 6.30pm at Lochaber Rugby Club’s Banavie clubhouse.
The new Lochaber Supplies ten-pin bowling league began on Monday with five teams taking part.
