Shinty coach­ing cour­ses

THE CA­MANACHD As­so­ci­a­tion is pro­mot­ing the lat­est round of shinty coach­ing cour­ses, which in­cludes a UK Coach­ing Cer­tifi­cate Level 2 course in Oban.

The course, which in­cludes prac­ti­cal and the­ory ses­sions de­signed to help ex­pe­ri­enced coaches in charge of U17 and se­nior squads, takes place over three days – Satur­day December 10, Sun­day December 11 and Sun­day Jan­u­ary 14. All three ses­sions will take place at Oban High School.

There will also be a coach­ing ses­sion as­sess­ment at the coaches’ club/school.

Each can­di­date will re­ceive a re­source man­ual and copies of the rules of shinty. The course fee is £240 but fund­ing to cover the ma­jor­ity of the cost is avail­able from sportscot­land and lo­cal sports coun­cils.

As well as the Oban ses­sions, a foun­da­tion course will take place at Craig­monie Cen­tre, Drum­nadro­chit, on Satur­day Novem­ber 19.

This course is de­signed to teach any adult aged over 16 with lim­ited ex­pe­ri­ence of the game the ba­sic ‘how to coach’ and ‘ what to coach’ tech­niques which are fun­da­men­tal to skills devel­op­ment in the game of shinty.

This course will run for one day from 9.30am to 4pm and costs £ 30. Katie Drain, re­gional devel­op­ment of­fi­cer (north), is the main point of con­tact.

Also, a UK Coach­ing Cer­tifi­cate Level 2 course, the same as the Oban event, will take place at Drum­nadro­chit on Satur­day December 3 and Sun­day 4 December.

Ap­pli­ca­tions forms for all cour­ses are avail­able from the Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion or from their of­fi­cial web­site and should be re­turned to the ap­pro­pri­ate or­gan­iser.
