Ar­gyll and Isles tourism busi­nesses scoop re­gional awards

TOURISM busi­nesses from across Ar­gyll and the Isles topped off a bumper tourism sea­son by scoop­ing five awards at the High­lands and Is­lands Tourism Awards (HITA) held in In­ver­ness on Friday Novem­ber 4.

Fi­nal­ists from across the re- gion gath­ered to hear the re­sults of cat­e­gories rang­ing from best ac­com­mo­da­tion provider to tourism and hos­pi­tal­ity hero. Among the fi­nal­ists was Ar­gyll and the Isles Tourism Co- op­er­a­tive (AITC), nom­i­nated in the work­ing to­gether for tourism cat­e­gory.

Fol­low­ing the awards, AITC chair­man Gavin Dick con­grat­u­lated all the win­ners, say­ing: ‘I am de­lighted to see these awards go­ing to their new homes in Ar­gyll and the Isles.

‘The qual­ity of the of­fer­ing in our re­gion is sec­ond to none, and I’m de­lighted to see the judges agree. We have so much to of­fer our vis­i­tors, from fab­u­lous food and drink, to fes­ti­vals, at­trac­tions and unique experiences.

‘Just two hours from Glas­gow will take you into the heart of Ar­gyll. It’s a jour­ney worth mak­ing and we en­cour­age as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble to come and ex­plore.’

Awards won by Ar­gyll and the Isles busi­nesses were as fol­lows.

Best ac­com­mo­da­tion provider: the Ma­jes­tic Line; best cul­tural event or festival: Oban Win­ter Festival; friendli­est pub/ bar: MacGochans, Mull; in­no­va­tion in tourism: Mull Ea­gle Watch; best res­tau­rant ex­pe­ri­ence: In­ver, Strath­lach­lan.

All the award-win­ners from the evening go for­ward to rep­re­sent the High­lands and Is­lands re­gion at the na­tional fi­nals of the Scot­tish This­tle Awards in March 2017.
