Search is on to find heroes

PEO­PLE in Oban are be­ing en­cour­aged to nom­i­nate them­selves or oth­ers for the Earth Hour Heroes com­pe­ti­tion.

The ini­tia­tive is search­ing for in­di­vid­u­als who de­serve recog­ni­tion for go­ing the ex­tra mile to help the en­vi­ron­ment and in­spire oth­ers, whether at home, in the com­mu­nity or in the work­place.

The com­pe­ti­tion is part of Earth Hour, which takes place at 8.30pm on Satur­day March 25, 2017.

It is the largest global cel­e­bra­tion of the planet, when mil­lions of peo­ple around the world switch off their lights for one hour to show their sup­port for ac­tion on cli­mate change.

To en­ter the Earth Hour Heroes com­pe­ti­tion, go to www. wwf.org.uk/ EarthHourHeroes and say why you or some­one you know de­serves to be an Earth Hour Hero in one of the fol­low­ing cat­e­gories: com­mu­nity hero, life­style hero and work­place hero.

Short­listed en­tries will be in­vited to at­tend an ex­clu­sive event at the Palace of West­min­ster on March 7, 2017, where a win­ner for each cat­e­gory will be an­nounced.

The win­ners will re­ceive £1,000 each, thanks to the sup­port of play­ers of Peo­ple’s Post­code Lottery, to help to­wards boost­ing their Earth Hour Hero ini­tia­tives.

The dead­line for en­tries is Friday, De­cem­ber 16.
