Ewan wins New Year’s day race
A TOTAL of 123 runners turned out on New Year’s day to take part in Lochaber Athletics Club’s (LAC) first race of 2017.
There were ‘ideal conditions’ on Sunday for the Aonach Mor uphill race where Lochaber’s Ewan Thorburn was the first male home in a time of 22:37.
He was followed by Ochil Hill Runners Alisdair Anthony in 23:20 and Alistair Hodges of Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics Club in 23:49.
The first female home was Sula Gay, Hunter Bog Trotters, in a time of 27:24. In second place was Morag MacClelland, Hunter Bog Trotters, in 29:30, who was closely followed by Elizabeth Adams, Westies, in 29:46. A spokesperson for LAC said: ‘Well done to everyone who took part and massive thanks to organisers, marshalls and timekeepers Corrina, Cammy, Ian, Elizabeth, Rhona, Aileen, Elaine any others I may have missed and Nevis Range and sponsors Run4it, Cotswolds and Vicki Anderson. Many thanks to you all and a happy New Year.’
