MALLAIG Primary School has been awarded a new Green Flag for Eco Schools from Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Keep Scotland Beautiful recognised the school’s hard work in reducing waste and energy consumption in the school, and it’s support in conserving biodiversity in the local area.

The organisation also highlighted the good relationship the school has with the area’s fishermen, the RNLI, the RSPB and the Coastal Rangers’ Service, and how the children have used these links to create a strong eco ethos in the school.

Head teacher Dawn MacPhie said the school was also ‘ warmly commended’ for community litter picking and anti- dog fouling campaigns, and also for ‘our generous support of worthwhile charities like Water Aid.’

Ms MacPhie said: ‘As part of our school’s eco work, the children have also been collecting donations of food for the Lochaber Food Bank throughout the whole of December.

‘ We have been successful in collecting a huge amount of donations, which will be passed onto the Lochaber Food Bank in time for Christmas.’
