Nursery tots give Hope at Christmas

The Oban Times - - News -

PUPILS and friends of Lochnell Nursery School raised £242 for Oban’s Hope Kitchen at a Christmas tea and cake party in Benderloch.

Nursery teacher Joanna Clark said the charity, which provides food, shelter and companionship to vulnerable people living in Oban and Lorn, gave a talk to the children to raise awareness about homelessness and people less fortunate than them.

The children brought in lots of Christmas parcels to gift to Hope Kitchen. ‘We had five full boxes of food,’ she said.

Lochnell Primary then hosted a fundraising coffee morning for the children’s friends, parents and grandparents, who could buy decorations made by the pupils, and compete in their competition to guess the name of the teddy bear. Ms Clark announced the winner was Duncan Hunt, who guessed the correct name ‘Clyde’.

Hope Kitchen manager Lorraine MacCormick said: ‘I have never been asked to talk to a nursery school. The fact they are teaching children this young is so special. They were asking all the right questions. They are amazing.’
