Route changed to protect mountain
LAST year, one of the country’s best-known race routes was changed to safeguard the future of the Ben Nevis Race and the future of the mountain.
In a further commitment to sustainability, Ben Nevis Race Association recently donated £ 500 to Nevis Landscape Partnership to contribute towards tackling the environmental impact of large-scale challenge events on Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis.
Lewis Pate, environmental projects officer with the Nevis Landscape Partnership, said: ‘Everyone here would like to thank Micky Whitehead and the Ben Nevis Race Association for their extremely kind donation.
‘ We will continue to raise awareness of the environmental impacts caused by large- scale events on Ben Nevis and hope to work with many more race and challenge organisers to make their individual events as sustainable as possible.’
Sustainable Futures: Erosion and Minimal Impact is just one of Nevis Landscape Partnership’s 19 environmental projects.
Full details of the entire programme, along with engagement and volunteering events for the coming year, can be found on the Nevis Landscape Partnership’s website and social media feeds.
