Floral committee sets its sights on £5,000 for Spean Bridge upgrade
GLEN Spean and Great Glen Area marketing group is bidding to bag a cash boost of up to £ 5,000 towards its Villages in Bloom floral committee.
The floral committee hopes to secure either £1,000, £2,000 or £ 5,000 worth of funding to transform the Old Post Office garden into a ‘ beautiful community space’.
A group spokesperson said: ‘This money will be used to revitalise a neglected garden next to the busy Spar shop in Spean Bridge.
‘This garden needs a lot of work and some professional equipment to get it back to a standard where volunteers can step in and maintain it.
‘It has the potential to be a beautiful community space where locals and visitors can sit for a rest, enjoy a takeaway or just bask in those rare sunny Lochaber days.’
The £ 5,000 would include putting in an arbour seat, raised flower beds and a secure donation post to help generate funds for the committee.
The spokesperson continued: ‘There currently is a tiny group of volunteers taking on a huge task of planting flower barrels throughout Spean Bridge and Roy Bridge, and maintaining some gardens. We would love to take on more if we had the helping hands and funds to do it.’
