Join Team Stroke at the Ed­in­burgh Marathon

THE STROKE As­so­ci­a­tion has guar­an­teed places for this year’s Ed­in­burgh Marathon to be held on Sun­day May 28 and would love peo­ple to join its team.

It is ask­ing all run­ners with a char­ity place to aim to raise a min­i­mum of £450 in spon­sor­ship. To se­cure your char­ity place, please reg­is­ter on the Ed­in­burgh Marathon web­site.

If you al­ready have your own place and would like to fundraise for the char­ity, please email sup­port­er­ or call 0300 330 0740.

All its run­ners will re­ceive a Stroke As­so­ci­a­tion run­ning vest; a 16-week train­ing plan; weekly emails full of train­ing tips and fundrais­ing ideas; full fundrais­ing sup­port; sup­port from its cheer­ing point on the day and a mas­sage in the post- event char­ity vil­lage.

Fast and flat, the Ed­in­burgh Marathon was voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Run­ner’s World. It is ideal for your first marathon or if you are look­ing for a pes­onal best time.

Start­ing on Lon­don Road and Re­gent Road, the route takes you by the his­toric Palace of Holyroodhouse and through Holy­rood Park. It then goes past Mead­ow­bank Sta­dium, through Leith Links, along Por­to­bello prom­e­nade and then into East Loth­ian. The marathon fin­ishes at Pinkie Pri­mary School in Mus­sel­burgh.

Kirsty Scott, Stroke As­so­ci­a­tion com­mu­nity and events fundrais­ing man­ager, said: ‘There are about 14,000 strokes in Scot­land ev­ery year and it causes a greater range of dis­abil­i­ties than any other con­di­tion.
