Starting on London Road and Regent Road, the route takes you by the historic Palace of Holyroodhouse and through Holyrood Park. It then goes past Meadowbank Stadium, through Leith Links, along Portobello promenade and then into East Lothian. The marathon finishes at Pinkie Primary School in Musselburgh.

Kirsty Scott, Stroke Association community and events fundraising manager, said: ‘There are about 14,000 strokes in Scotland every year and it causes a greater range of disabilities than any other condition.
