Feathers fly as Dunoon win Argyll Cup at Atlantis
TEAMS from Oban, Dunoon, Mid Argyll and Campbeltown battled it out on the badminton court last Saturday for the annual Argyll Cup.
In the end it was Dunoon who came out on top, winning both categories and taking home the A and C cups.
Each team entered a handful of pairs to compete in 10 games and the region with the most wins was crowned the winner.
The tournament took place at Atlantis Leisure and was organised by Oban Badminton Club.
The prize-giving ceremony took place in the Regent Hotel in Oban on Saturday night, where all the teams got together and enjoyed a meal.
Debbie Craig, Oban’s team captain, said: ‘ Well done to both Dunoon’s teams. We put everything into our games.
‘I love playing the Argyll Cup. I have played in loads of tournaments and the Argyll Cup is a great tournament. I don’t care how much it takes, we have got to keep it going.’
Steven Wilson of Oban said: ‘It was a great turn- out. Everyone seemed to have fun. It was great to see young and old, as well as new players coming through the ranks. It was good to see people travel a long way to come here.’
Ally MacDonald of Mid Argyll said: ‘ The Argyll Cup is a massive competition and it means an incredible amount to me.
‘It is such an important thing. Any young players, who are going off to university, please try to make time to come back and play – everyone enjoys it.’
Both Steven and Debbie emphasised that anyone is welcome to join the club.
They can do so by attending an open night at Atlantis Leisure, which takes place every Tuesday from 8pm until 10pm.
