Lo­nan the Spaniel was cel­e­brat­ing this week af­ter win­ning the West

Coast Re­view mag­a­zine’s sudoku com­pe­ti­tion. The top dog was pre­sented with bot­tle of Oban whisky. Lo­nan’s owner, Martin Wil­son of Oban, who com­pleted the puz­zle but filled in his dog’s name on the en­try form, will do his part drink­ing the sin­gle malt, while four-year- old Lo­nan, named af­ter Glen Lo­nan, con­tin­ues to en­joy chas­ing balls in the mud. The Oban Times of­fice, the 62-year- old for­mer teacher apol­o­gised for Lo­nan’s muddy paws and ex­plained that, since he [Martin] won the fiendishly dif­fi­cult sudoku chal­lenge a year ago, he’s been gen­er­ously en­ter­ing Lo­nan in­stead – and putting his brother’s dog on raf­fle tick­ets.
