Lochaber Ladies win local derby
Fort William Ladies 3 Lochaber Ladies 4
FORT WILLIAM were host to Lochaber Ladies in a pre-arranged friendly at the weekend and what an entertaining game of shinty ensued.
Lochaber, from the whistle, piled on the pressure in front of the Fort goal and keeper Kayleigh Woods pulled off all kinds of saves to keep the Fort level-pegging. However, Lochaber eventually broke through to make it 1- 0 to the visitors.
The game raged from end to end with Fort finding their form and they soon drew level. They continued to push forward with Woods pulling off some outstanding saves, but it was Lochaber who scored next which saw the teams go into the interval at 2-1 to the visitors.
As referee Ron Campbell sounded the blast for the start of the second half, Fort got about their business and Ashleigh Fraser fired in a cracking goal to make it all square. The game then turned with Fort looking to kill it off and Lochaber’s defence and keeper were at full alert. Then a pass to Zoe Smith saw her rifle a beauty into Lochaber’s net.
With barely nine minutes to go, Fort must have thought about bolstering their defence and seeing the game out but rivals Lochaber had other ideas.
Continuous attacks saw the Lochaber Ladies reap their rewards with a beautiful goal and with minutes remaining it looked like a draw was on the cards.
However, from the throw-up Lochaber were quicker off the mark which took the Fort defence by surprise and sealed their win to make it 4-3 in Lochaber’s favour.
