There was, unsurprisingly perhaps, a spirited response to the news that Argyll and Bute Council is to raise council tax by three per cent.

Yvie-Yvonne Young asked: ‘Where does the council tax we pay at the moment actually go, never mind bloody hiking it up!! Council run services are at an all time low to a detriment of everyone’s health & wellbeing, young & old! Get rid of the buggers that are on the high salaries that do hee-haw, instead of penalising the front line workers who keep the wheels of industry turning!’

Campbell Reid suggested: ‘Get rid of all the fat cats and all the hangers on who don’t know what they are doing, then ask the people what is the reason they are so much in debt.’

Kevin Macdougall posted: ‘I think we should stop paying council tax until all services are improved!!!!’

Alistair Reid countered: ‘Let’s put things into perspective. On average it’s only going to be a couple of pound a week extra, hardly life changing amount of money. If it helps pay for vital services them am all for it.’

James Strang wrote: They have a bloody cheek we pay more than enough in taxes locally and nationally for our services and it aint much of a service.’ Allan Strang Jnr said simply: ‘ Two fingers up to that.’

Sandy Rokitta wondered: ‘ That’s fine but what do we get for the money not value????’ Colin Cooper wrote: ‘First spend they should spend wiser before raising the tax.’ Thomas Shaw said: ‘Absolute Disgrace.’
