Dalmally Golf Club pays tribute to John MacKechnie

The Oban Times - - Sport -

KIND temperatures, sunshine and good course conditions on Sunday April 2 welcomed 32 players to the first event of the Dalmally golf season.

With a mixed foursome Stableford format, the match was organised to commemorate former club treasurer John MacKechnie, who died suddenly in December 2016. The John MacKechnie Quaich challenge will become the inaugural fixture in the calendar.

John, a founding member of the club, made an outstanding and unforgettable contribution over the past 30 years. He was a linchpin, not only in his role as treasurer but also as greenkeeper. He will be very sadly missed, as testified in the warm tributes paid to him on behalf of all his friends and fellow members by past captain, Billy McKay, and ladies captain, Ann Colthart.

Result: 1 June Sutherland and John McClelland 34 pts; 2 Barbara Robertson and Andy McLean 33 pts; 3 Graeme MacKechnie and Alison Livingstone 31pts.

Photographed Left to right – John’s son, Graeme MacKechnie presenting the John MacKechnie Quaich to winners June Sutherland (who founded the ladies section in 1995) and John McClelland (a new member, playing in his first match, and one to watch).
