Rise to the walking challenge
NHS HIGHLAND launched its annual community walking challenge ‘Rise and Shine’ this month, alongside other cycling and jogging challenges called ‘Challenge Myself’.
The aim is to get fit, stay healthy and have fun with friends. Each area in Argyll and Bute has been entered into the walking challenge league to compete against each other.
The champion area for 2016 was the Isle of Mull, with Jura, Bute and Oban hot on their heels. Which will be the first area to reach one million steps in 2017?
The participating areas in this year’s walking challenge are Cowal, Bute, Kintyre, Tiree, Helensburgh, Mull, Jura, Oban, Gigha, Mid Argyll and Colonsay. So far, the Isle of Mull has let its crown slip, with Isle of Bute being strides ahead.
Competitors can also enter Argyll and Bute’s cycling and jogging challenges, and compete against each other to win the titles of ‘Cyclist of the Month’ and ‘Female and Male Jogger of the Month’. All competitors’ miles will be accumulated to reach an overall target of 6,000 miles by September 2017.
