Successful month for Taynuilt's Ballet West
It's been a successful month for the Taynuilt-based Ballet West, with two students making it to the final of a national televised competition and a teacher winning a prestigious award.
Two of the final five competitors in the BBC Young Dancer competition were Uyu Hiromoto and Oscar Ward – both students at the ballet school.
Ballet West entered three students in total, who all reached the final 10.
Ballet West teacher Natasha Watson also racked up some success by receiving a Phyllis Bedells Award for choreography.
Ballet West first-year student Hortense Malaval performed the piece written by Natasha at the competition and was recognised for her performance.
Natasha also received a contract with English National Ballet – performing in their production of Cinderella.
This is her second contract with the company. She will return to Ballet West to perform the role of Giselle in Ballet West Scottish tour next January and February.
A spokeswoman for Ballet West said: ' It's pretty amazing, I think, to have two of the five finalists in that competition. It says a great deal about the school and about the training, as well as the dancers themselves.
' Winning that award is also pretty fantastic.'
