Driver was over limit and already banned

The Oban Times - - News -

A 46-YEAR- OLD Oban man has admitted driving while disqualified and under the influence of alcohol.

Mark Johnston, of 5e Colonsay Terrace, Soroba, also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance at Oban Sheriff Court on Monday April 10.

Johnston said that he impulsively decided to drive the car home after his wife had parked it at a supermarket.

At around 11.40am on April 6, police suspected that the driver of the car might have been disqualified in the past.

After stopping the vehicle as it turned into Colonsay Terrace, and searching a police database, their suspicions were confirmed.

Johnston was then found to be driving over the drink- drive limit when the sample of breath he provided registered 30 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, when the limit is 22 micrograms per 100 millilitres.

Sheriff Ruth Anderson said: ‘You were disqualified from driving only three months ago. This is clearly a considerable concern to the community and the court.

‘I am looking at all options. I will continue your bail and consider a forfeiture of the vehicle.’

Sentencing was deferred until April 25.
