High praise for buildings staff
THE Scottish Government has given top marks to Argyll and Bute Council’s building standards.
Ministers have re-appointed all 32 Scottish local authorities as ‘ verifiers’, who can grant building warrants, under Section 7 of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 from May 1, 2017. The period of appointments differ (six years, three years or one year) depending on past performance of the individual local authority.

strong turnaround times and customer satisfaction’, alongside 16 other councils, including Comhiarle nan Eilean Siar.
Head of planning and regulatory services Angus Gilmour said: ‘Our building standards team works very hard to support developers in ensuring that new homes and other buildings are safe for use.
‘Their focus is on protecting public safety in timescales that support the ambitions of developers and this is reflected in the high level of customer satisfaction the team is achieving.
‘Over the past three years, the team has been in the top three in Scotland for customer satisfaction with building standards services.
‘This appointment as verifiers, for the maximum period possible of six years, recognises the high quality of the work they are carrying out for residents and developers across Argyll and Bute.’
