There was a significant amount of comment on the 12 years’ imprisonment and 15-year driving ban handed down to Thomas Wainwright for causing the death of Mull vet Theresa Wade in an accident in 2015. Claire Louise criticised: ‘Not long enough, it wasn’t his first offence and he didn’t even have the decency to plead guilty.’ Muriel Searl wrote: ‘Arrogant and conceited ... deserves every second of his sentence.’

Denice Addison posted: ‘ This guy is having 12 years (which he will probably do 6 at most) of his life taken away from him! Poor Theresa has had the rest of hers taken and her family will be heartbroken for the rest of theirs! I think the sentence was very well deserved! I

know people make silly decisions but trying to blame the girl you have killed for the accident really is the lowest of the low!’ Jacqueline Douglas blasted: ‘Anyone driving a car drunk, is prepared to take the risk to kill someone. I call that ice cold murder.’

John Lamont said: ‘he ll not regret it unfortunately ,if he had any remorse he’d have plead guilty and not try and pervert the course of justice with his passenger ,who said Ms Wade was at fault for the accident.’

Mark Robertson said: ‘Sorry but his act was so gross and reckless that there was a serious risk to others ... he got what he deserved!’ David Williamson suggested: ‘I bet you wish you could turn the clock back!!! But you need to do your time. You will unfortunately be out with good behaviour in less than your sentence, which personally is wrong. You will regret this every day of you’re life.’

Shawn Hooper offered: ‘12 years?! Wow! I know the USA is pretty messed up, but he would have gotten more time here.’ Marlyn Scanlon wrote: ‘He does NOT deserve sympathy A car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands.’ Tj Telfer posted: ‘Scum!Hope the family have some sort of closure.Rest in peace Theresa.’ Iain Brown wished: ‘Hope the 15 year ban starts when he is out of jail.’ Elda Rowan lamented: ‘Disgraceful sentence, Not nearly enough!’ Nathalie Porter said simply: ‘Good!’
