MORAR Community Council met recently in Lovat Primary School.

Present: Tiina Heinonen, Gerry MacDonald, Mairead MacDonald, treasurer, Alistair Neil MacKay, Douglas MacKellaig, Dave Newnham, chairman, and Deirdre Roberts, secretary. In attendance: Councillor Allan Henderson, PC Hugo Martin and Willie Duncan. Apologies: Stuart Griffin and councillors Bill Clark and Ben Thompson.

Community Warden Willie Duncan introduced himself. This is a new post created by the Highland Council to work with the community to address anti-social behaviour.

Matters arising from minutes: Bus shelter at Woodside: It is hoped to have this built this month. Gritting on Bracara road: Heaps of grit have been placed on Bracara brae. A spreader has been made available for residents to use. It was suggested if funding was available someone could be hired to do the spreading. Allan Henderson will deal with this.

Road issues: The road surface has deteriorated in many places and on bridges. The bridge at Alex MacKay’s house has a side missing and a cow was lost there last week. The bridge at Bracarina is full of holes and the bridge at Inverbeg has gone. Drains need clearing as water sometimes overflows on to the road and causes deterioration of the road surface. Allan Henderson will look into these issues.

Christmas meal for senior citizens: Invitations for the meal went out at the last minute. It was therefore agreed the community council would set the date for the meal prior to its summer recess at the June meeting. The date will be publicised in West Word and in the minutes. It will be made clear attendance is by invitation only. The community council will ensure the invitations go out at least a month before the meal. This year the community council will print/photocopy its own invitations. There was a discussion about the gifts given to individuals who were unable to attend the meal.

Any other business: It was suggested two defibrillators should be bought for the village. Allan Henderson said there may be money available for these from the British Heart Foundation. The community council will look into this.
