Days gone by – the 1970s?

The Oban Times - - Letters -

This splendid photograph emerge from our archives with very little information other than a caption which reads: ‘Colonsay DJ John Campbell and supporters make a record appeal.’ Can anyone enlighten us further? Following our flashback picture published last week, reader Jan Roberts emailed to say: ‘Not sure how you came across this photo but I previously put it into the “you are not an obanite if you don’t remember” Facebook page. I got the picture from my papa – Gilbert Mackechnie – who died in 2012. He is in the picture, back row, third boy from the left with the black jumper. It is indeed Rockfield school and the year must have been around 1926. My papa was born in 1916 and I’m guessing he is around 10 in this picture. On the Obanite Facebook page it will still be in among the pictures somewhere. I’m sure there was plenty comment at the time from people recognising other faces. It was lovely to see it in the Oban Times.’
