Jeremy takes second place
THE NATIONAL Scottish strongman under-90kg competition took place on April 19 in the Ben Nevis Industrial estate.
Ewan Massie from Edinburgh was the overall winner, with local lad Jeremy Vickers in second place and Jonnie Manson of Shetland finishing third. Lawrie Marshall also competed but didn’t make the top three.
The competition involved a loading event, a deadlift of 230kg, which the competitors had to lift as many times as they could in 75 seconds.
There was a press of 110kg, which again required as many reps in 75 seconds as possible.
Then there was an Atlas Stone event, where the men lifted the 110kg stone to shoulder height, again doing as many reps as they could in 75 seconds.
There was a super yoke, where a 330kg weight was lifted to shoulder height and then the competitors had to walk carrying it.
Finally, there was a tyre flip event, where competitors flipped a 320kg tyre six times, as fast as they could.
As well as their trophies, the top three will be invited to compete for the under 90kg world championship in Finland in September, along with event organiser Stuart Whyte, who will be competing in in the under 105kg class.
The winners of Saturday’s competition will also be invited to compete in the UK and British championships in their weightclass.
