Population on the rise
THE population of Argyll and Bute increased by 240, or 0.3 per cent, last year, according to the latest statistics.
The National Records of Scotland figures show that the area’s population grew to 87,120 by the end of June 2016.
Cleland Sneddon, Argyll and Bute Council’s chief executive, said: ‘This is really welcome news. As a council, our focus is on creating jobs, opportunities and growing our economy.
‘Change is always possible and it is extremely pleasing to see that our hard work and efforts to reverse the recent population decline and to create a vibrant economic future for the area by encouraging people and new business activity to come here, stay here and return to Argyll and Bute have been a real success.’
