Pop­u­la­tion on the rise

THE pop­u­la­tion of Ar­gyll and Bute in­creased by 240, or 0.3 per cent, last year, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est statis­tics.

The Na­tional Records of Scot­land fig­ures show that the area’s pop­u­la­tion grew to 87,120 by the end of June 2016.

Cle­land Sned­don, Ar­gyll and Bute Coun­cil’s chief ex­ec­u­tive, said: ‘This is re­ally wel­come news. As a coun­cil, our fo­cus is on cre­at­ing jobs, op­por­tu­ni­ties and grow­ing our econ­omy.

‘Change is al­ways pos­si­ble and it is ex­tremely pleas­ing to see that our hard work and ef­forts to re­verse the re­cent pop­u­la­tion de­cline and to cre­ate a vi­brant eco­nomic future for the area by en­cour­ag­ing peo­ple and new busi­ness ac­tiv­ity to come here, stay here and re­turn to Ar­gyll and Bute have been a real suc­cess.’
