Drum­mer cel­e­brates pro­mo­tion

A DRUM­MER from Fort Wil­liam is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter be­ing handed a high-rank­ing po­si­tion.

Cadet Sergeant Jodie Standen from 1st Bat­tal­ion the High­landers ACF has been ap­pointed the Bat­tal­ion’s new Cadet Drum Ma­jor for the Bat­tal­ion’s Pipes and Drums.

Bat­tal­ion the High­landers ACF is a youth or­gan­i­sa­tion which pro­vides chal­leng­ing ad­ven­ture, sport­ing and com­mu­nity activities aim­ing to in­spire young peo­ple to achieve suc­cess while hav­ing fun at the same time.

Six­teen-year- old Jodie has been a mem­ber of the bat­tal­ion since April 2013 and has pro­gressed through ‘green’ train­ing which in­volved shoot­ing, first aid, field- craft and nav­i­ga­tion and music train­ing. She is also a cadet in­struc­tor and teaches drum­ming to fel­low cadets.

She told the Lochaber Times: ‘I am de­lighted to be ap­pointed as the new drum ma­jor of the bat­tal­ion. I hope to fur­ther my lead­er­ship skills, sup­port younger mu­si­cians de­velop and suc­ceed in their ca­reers as army cadet mu­si­cians, and I look for­ward to rep­re­sent­ing the bat­tal­ion in forth­com­ing events.’
