Michael pedals off on Road to Lisbon
FORT William’s Michael MacEachan is taking part in a two-week cycle from Celtic Park to Lisbon to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions winning the European cup.
Last Thursday, May 11, 28 Celtic fans set off on the Road to Lisbon to raise money for three charities: The Celtic Foundation, Solving Kids Cancer and Children in Crossfire. Speaking to the Lochaber
Times, Michael said: ‘I was heavily involved with Fort William Football Club but when I stopped that two years ago, I had a lot of time on my hands so I took up cycling.
‘I have been putting in the miles, about 200 a week, to get ready for this. I love it, it’s been great getting out on the bike.’
More than £1,400 has been raised so far through Michael’s fundraising page with amazing support from people in Fort William.
Fort William Celtic Supporters Club raised £ 300 from a bucket collection at a recent concert in Caol.
Michael said: ‘It was a great night. The supporters club has also given me another £250 raised from the raffle.’
The group is due to arrive in Lisbon on Wednesday May 24 and will be cycling to the Lisbon stadium on Thursday May 25 – the official 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions winning the European cup.
