Michael ped­als off on Road to Lis­bon

FORT Wil­liam’s Michael MacEachan is tak­ing part in a two-week cy­cle from Celtic Park to Lis­bon to com­mem­o­rate the 50th an­niver­sary of the Lis­bon Lions win­ning the Euro­pean cup.

Last Thurs­day, May 11, 28 Celtic fans set off on the Road to Lis­bon to raise money for three char­i­ties: The Celtic Foun­da­tion, Solv­ing Kids Cancer and Chil­dren in Cross­fire. Speak­ing to the Lochaber

Times, Michael said: ‘I was heav­ily in­volved with Fort Wil­liam Foot­ball Club but when I stopped that two years ago, I had a lot of time on my hands so I took up cy­cling.

‘I have been putting in the miles, about 200 a week, to get ready for this. I love it, it’s been great get­ting out on the bike.’

More than £1,400 has been raised so far through Michael’s fundrais­ing page with amaz­ing sup­port from peo­ple in Fort Wil­liam.

Fort Wil­liam Celtic Sup­port­ers Club raised £ 300 from a bucket col­lec­tion at a re­cent con­cert in Caol.

Michael said: ‘It was a great night. The sup­port­ers club has also given me an­other £250 raised from the raf­fle.’

The group is due to ar­rive in Lis­bon on Wed­nes­day May 24 and will be cy­cling to the Lis­bon sta­dium on Thurs­day May 25 – the of­fi­cial 50th an­niver­sary of the Lis­bon Lions win­ning the Euro­pean cup.
