OBAN High School Pipe Band and Inveraray Pipe Band got the piping season off on the right note last Sunday, May 14, by sweeping the boards over a number of competitions in Gourock.

The 6.50am early start for high school pupils, many of whom are studying for exams, did not deter the hardy pipers and drummers as both school bands got full marks.

This is the first major pipe band competition of the season and both Oban and Inveraray did Argyll proud by coming back with the silverware.

Oban High School took first place from both piping adjudicators and second place from the piping adjudicator – giving them five overall points. Second place was secured for Dumbarton and District Pipe Band who secured seven points and in third place with 12 points was Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Band.

In the Novice A competition, the same adjudicators for the competition marked Oban High School Pipe Band with first place in piping and a second place in drumming with an overall five points. Second was 1st Troon Boys Brigade with seven points and Dunoon Grammar School with 12 points.
