Oban win away at Gargunnock

-

OBAN Cricket Club travelled to Gargunnock in Stirlingshire for their first fixture of 2017 and came away with a welcome seven-wicket victory.

Batting first, Gargunnock started well and they looked on target for a big total before Oban began to take wickets at vital times. Reaching 100 for the loss of only two wickets, the home side were in pole position but opener Andrew Lloyd was caught off the bowling of Ronnie Kelly for 34 and, after he departed, the runs dried up and wickets fell regularly. Daniel Booker picked up 4 wickets, Ronnie Kelly and Tristan Carre two each as Gargunnock finished all out for 140, a score they must have thought was disappointing considering their good start.

In reply, Oban lost an early wicket and Jahed Ahmed and Dan Booker had to play well to steady the innings. Booker was well caught for 23, but Jahed and Tristan Carre then proceeded to bat very sensibly, and the score continued to climb steadily. Jahed completed his 50 just before the finish as Oban passed the 140 total with plenty overs to spare. Jahed was 54 not out at the end and Tristan Carre finished unbeaten on 44 to complete a very good days work for the Oban side.

Scores: Gargunnock 140 (Lloyd 34 ; Booker 4-37)

Oban 142-3 (Jahed 54 not out, Carre 44 not out).
