New children’s tale of Mull sea unicorn launches in Tobermory
A NEW children’s book, where the story begins in Benderloch, moves through Oban and on to Mull and Iona, launches in Tobermory on Monday May 29.
Written by Jennifer T Doherty and illustrated by Gillian Stewart, who has family links to Mull, The Sea Unicorn of Mull comes from Scottish publisher Serafina Press.
Books from the press have covered the Borders, Fife and East Lothian, but Jennifer Doherty wanted the next book to be set on the west coast.
‘I have visited Oban, Mull and Iona many times over the last couple of years with an ever-increasing fondness for it. After many years of living in the Borders, I have moved to Glasgow and I love being closer to Oban and Mull,’ she said. The beauty and sense of magic here made it the obvious setting for a story and I hope children - local and visiting - will enjoy the tale of the sea unicorn’s search for his heart.’
The launch event will be at Mull Tackle and Books, Tobermory, on Monday May 29, from 11am to 1pm. The book will be stocked there and will also be available at Waterstones in Oban and on CalMac ferries.
