Renowned choir brings its music tour to Argyll

-

GLASGOW Phoenix Choir (GPC) is a mixed-voice choir of 120-plus singers which performs up to 40 shows a year in major concert halls, cathedrals and remote island venues.

The choir continues the legacy of its illustrious predecessor, the Glasgow Orpheus Choir 1901-1951, and this year the Phoenix celebrates 116 years of choral excellence. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Co- op Funeralcare, the GPC is now able to participate in an increas- ing number of concerts in aid of many worthwhile causes.

Under its conductor Marilyn J Smith MBE and accompanist and depute conductor Cameron Murdoch, the choir performs a wide range of music from choral standards to new music, often featuring delightful solo performances by choir members.

Its concerts in Argyll this month support a number of charities and the intention is to return to a number of the venues in future to add to its praised series of post- card CD recordings which raise much needed funds for buildings or organisations. Venues already supported include the Italian Chapel in Orkney, St Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow to support St Andrew’s Hospice Airdrie and Iona Abbey, which is visited on this tour. Join the choir at a series of memorable concerts and performances. Everyone welcome.

The organisers thank Co-op Funeralcare which sponsors the choir and makes all its appearances possible.
